Evans Valley Learning Center is a part of REACH and uses a Place-Based Learning Program. Place-based education (PBE) immerses students in local heritage, cultures, landscapes, opportunities, and experiences, using these as a foundation for the study of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, and other subjects across the curriculum. PBE emphasizes learning through participation in service projects for the school and/or community.

LOCATION
Located 7 miles past Rogue River, Oregon, the small unincorporated town of Wimer includes a population with an unwavering appreciation for rural life and community. In addition to the beloved school, Wimer is also home to the Wimer Covered Bridge. Originally built in 1892, the bridge was rebuilt by the community in 1927 and then again in 2008 after a collapse.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Passionate about place-based instruction (sometimes also called expeditionary learning or experiential learning)
- Applicant must hold or qualify for an Oregon Teaching Certificate, with subject area endorsement and grade level authorization.
- Desire and ability to work with a team of professional educators in a small/rural school.
- Familiarity with a variety of age-appropriate instructional, assessment, and classroom management strategies that reflect current research on best practices.
- Experience working with diverse groups.
- Familiarity with state standards and curriculum frameworks.
- Knowledge and experience with differentiated instruction.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
- Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work.
- Ability to direct the work of other staff members.
- Standard First Aid certification, or the ability to obtain certification within two months of hire, may be required.
- A positive role model for the school/community.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervises paraprofessional (instructional assistant, education assistance, classroom aide) and volunteers
- Establishes and enforces rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
- Enforces administration policies and rules governing students.
- Instructs and monitors students in the use and care of equipment and materials, in order to prevent injuries and damage.
